Day-wise details of this course
DAY I
Introduction to Panchakarma Framework
• Upakrama (उपक्रम):
Preparatory therapies to loosen and mobilize Doṣas.
Examples: Snehana, Swedana, Mṛdu Upacāras.
Purpose: Prepares body for major detox procedures.
• Pradhāna Karma (प्रधान कर्म):
Main Panchakarma procedures:
Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, Raktamokṣaṇa
Indication: Removal of aggravated Doṣas from their root sites.
• Paścāt Karma (पश्चात् कर्म):
Post-treatment therapies for restoration and nutrition.
Includes: Saṃsarjana Krama (dietary progression), Rasāyana, lifestyle discipline.
2. Importance of Home-Based Upakarmas
Clarify which therapies can be safely performed at home under guidance, e.g.:
• Avagāham Svedana (tub fomentation)
• Gandoosha & Kavala (oil pulling/gargling)
• Akshi Kṣālana (eye wash)
• Takra Chikitsā (therapeutic buttermilk applications)
These help in gas, bloating, headache, insomnia, stress, indigestion, early joint pains.
3. Introduction to Āyurvedic Dinacharyā (दिनचर्या)
Explain simple lifestyle foundations:
• Jagrana–Nidra cycle
• Abhyanga (oil massage)
• Gandusha / Kavala
• Nasya
• Vyāyāma
• Snāna
DAY 2 — Complete Dinacharyā + Foundational Therapies
A. Full Dinacharyā (Classical from Charaka Sutrasthana)
Cover each step with purpose + indications:
1. Dantadhāvana (Brushing)
2. Jihvānirlekhana (Tongue scraping)
3. Gandusha & Kavala – For halitosis, mouth ulcers, toothache, sinus issues.
4. Nasya (नस्य) – Prevents migraine, sinusitis, hair fall, improves vision.
5. Abhyanga (Abhyangam) – For Vata disorders, stress, insomnia, skin dryness.
6. Vyāyāma (Exercise)
7. Udvartana – For obesity, lymphatic sluggishness, kapha imbalance.
8. Snāna – Therapeutic bathing principles.
B. Begin Therapeutic Techniques (basic)
1. Avagāham Svedana (अवगाहन स्वेदन)
Warm medicated tub fomentation.
Indications: Low back pain, uterine spasm, urinary issues, muscle stiffness.
2. Upanāham (उपनाहम्)
Warm herbal poultice bandaging.
Indications: Cervical spondylosis, knee pain, ligament strain, swelling.
3. Lepana (लेपन)
Medicated herbal paste application.
Indications: Skin disorders, inflammation, localized pain, pigmentation.
4. Bandhanam (बन्धनम्)
Therapeutic binding using cloth/herbs.
Indications: Varicose veins, sprains, swelling, joint instability.
5. Thālam (थालम्)
Medicated paste applied to the crown.
Indications: Sleep disorders, anxiety, migraine, excessive thoughts.
6. Nabhi Abhyangam (नाभि अभ्यंगम्)
Umbilical massage with medicated oils.
Indications: IBS, constipation, indigestion, gas.
7. Pada Abhyangam (पाद अभ्यंगम्)
Foot massage with medicated oils.
Indications: Insomnia, stress, neuropathy, fatigue, anxiety.
DAY 3 — Local Basti Therapies + Sensory Organ Treatments
A. Local Basti Therapies (External Oil Reservoirs)
1. Jānu Basti (जानु बस्ती)
Oil pooling on knees.
Indications: Osteoarthritis, meniscal injury, ligament issues, chronic knee pain.
2. Kaṭi Basti (कटि बस्ती)
Oil pooling on lower back.
Indications: Sciatica, lumbar spondylosis, disc bulge, chronic back pain.
3. Ūro Basti (ऊरो बस्ती)
Oil pooling on chest region.
Indications: Respiratory weakness, costochondritis, anxiety, heart-region tension.
4. Grīvā Basti (ग्रीवा बस्ती)
Oil pooling on cervical region.
Indications: Cervical spondylosis, frozen neck, tension headache.
B. Special Sensory Organ Therapies
1. Karṇa Pūranam (कर्णपूरणम्)
Filling warm medicated oil in ears.
Indications: Tinnitus, ear dryness, hearing weakness, jaw tension.
2. Akṣi Kṣālana (अक्षि क्षालनम्)
Therapeutic eye wash.
Indications: Burning eyes, redness, dryness, computer strain, early fatigue.
3. Gandoosha & Kavala (गण्डूष / कवल)
Oil/gargle therapy.
Indications: Toothache, gum disease, oral ulcers, throat infections.
C. Patra Potali Svedana (पत्र पोटली स्वेदन)
Herbal leaf bolus fomentation.
Indications: Arthritis, muscular stiffness, sprains, paralysis support.
DAY 4 — Panchakarma Procedures + Shiro Therapies + Takra Chikitsā
A. Nasyam (नस्य)
Administering medicated oil/drops via nostrils.
Indications: Migraine, sinusitis, frozen shoulder, hair fall, mental fog, stress.
B. Talapothichil (तलपोथिचिल्)
Traditional medicated head pack.
Indications: Psoriasis of scalp, insomnia, migraine, high Pitta, irritability.
C. Takra Chikitsā (तक्र चिकित्सा)
Buttermilk-based therapeutic treatments.
Indications:
• Indigestion
• Gas and bloating
• Hyperacidity
• Pitta disorders
• Skin issues (through Takra Dhāra)
Include types:
• Takra Dhāra (pouring)
• Takra Seka (sprinkling)
• Takra Basti (enema)
D. Basti (बस्ती) — Main Panchakarma Procedure
Explain both:
1. Niruha Basti (क्वाथ बस्ती) – Decoction enema
• Indications: Rheumatoid arthritis, constipation, IBS, gout, nerve issues.
2. Anuvasana Basti (अभ्यंग तैल बस्ती) – Oil enema
• Indications: Vata disorders, dryness, insomnia, back pain, debility.
E. Preparation of Ayurvedic Shampoo
Using classical herbs:
• Shikakai, Reetha, Amla, Bhringraj, Hibiscus
Indications: Dandruff, hair fall, scalp heat, weak hair roots.
